Alberta takes action against sexualized books in schools

Last week, the provincial government of Alberta announced it will implement new rules regarding books that are available to children in schools.

Alberta’s Minister of Education, Demetrios Nicolaides, said in a press conference that the province is moving forward with an initiative to ban “sexually explicit” materials from school libraries. Nicolaides said: “these are extremely graphic depictions of molestation, self-harm, suicide and oral sex… I don’t think a minor should be viewing this type of material.”

This move came after the province investigated multiple books circulating in elementary and high schools in Edmonton and Calgary which contain sexually explicit and graphic content.

Schools are places of learning. Why are children being exposed to age-inappropriate content? Why won’t other provinces crack down on these explicit books as well?

Examples of Books

Gender Queer, Fun Home, Blankets, and Flamer are the four books listed as examples by the province. All of these books contain age-inappropriate content in their sexually explicit language, graphic descriptions, and images.

The province is also initiating a process for complaints and concerns about books, and other materials, as well as a survey available to the public, allowing parents to voice their concerns about what their children are exposed to.

Sexually inappropriate literature in schools is a widespread problem across Canada. PAFE has been sounding the alarm about this issue for years! For the past few months, we have been working on a database of inappropriate books containing explicit sexual descriptions or graphic depictions of sexual acts, as well as radical ideologies.

Materials like these should not be permitted in schools or made available to children. This should not be controversial.

But are we surprised? With radical sexual education offered to children in all provinces —yes, including Alberta! — It’s no wonder that kids are offered sexualized books as supplemental education.

All provinces need to act!

Ontario’s Premier Ford made a promise to parents to repeal Premier Kathleen Wynne’s sex-ed, but not only did he flip-flop, his government made it worse! Schools across Ontario are wrought with more ideological indoctrination than ever before.

PAFE speaks out for children and defends the rights of parents to choose what their children are learning and doing at school, and their right to be their children’s first educators.

Is euthanasia coming for kids in Canada?

What does euthanasia have to do with parental rights?

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), also known as euthanasia, was legalized in Canada in 2016 and is now in the process of being expanded. In just under a decade MAID has become one of the top five leading causes of death in Canada. Our country now has the fastest-growing euthanasia program in the world.

Why is this relevant to parental rights? Well, a special joint committee of MPs and Senators studying MAID has recommended that it be expanded to “mature minors” – that’s right; for children. The committee came out with an extensive report with many recommendations in February 2023. They recommend (link) that access to euthanasia for minors be restricted to track one, meaning to those whose natural death is deemed as “reasonably foreseeable”. It’s important to note that as of now, the committee has not gone so far as to recommend MAID be accessible for minors when their natural death is not “reasonably foreseeable”, but it seems like this could only be a matter of time. What does “reasonably foreseeable” mean? The term is vague, perhaps intentionally so.

Putting debate about the morality of euthanasia aside, the recommendations become particularly alarming when parents are referenced. Here is recommendation 19 (link): “that the Government of Canada establish a requirement that, where appropriate, the parents or guardians of a mature minor be consulted in the course of the assessment process for MAID, but that the will of a minor who is found to have the requisite decision-making capacity ultimately take priority.”

The committee recommends that parents be consulted “where appropriate”, the word “permission” is never used. Ultimately, they recommend that the will of the child “who is found to have the requisite decision-making capacity” take priority. This coincidentally, shares a similar logic to “gender-affirming care” in Canada. To put it bluntly, parental permission for life-altering (or life-ending) decisions, is irrelevant, according to the government.

In Canada, minors are typically not able to get a tattoo or even an ear piercing without a parent or guardian providing consent. Minors are not legally allowed to vote or gamble, and the government of Canada strongly advises that parents provide a letter of consent to their child when they travel. How then, can the committee recommend that a child be allowed to make the decision to take their own life via MAID? In what world could parental consent be completely bypassed when a sick child requests medical assistance in dying?

The mere suggestion of this is an egregious overstep by the government and the medical community.

Parents cannot sit back and allow the government to strip away the authority they have over their children’s very lives.

What can you do about it?

  • Call your MP and voice your concern about these recommendations
  • Warn your friends and other parents about this
  • Share this on social media by clicking here (link to email blog will be embedded)

Parents have authority over their children, and that authority is not to be undermined by teachers, doctors, or legislators. We work tirelessly to defend the inalienable rights of parents.

Let Kids Be Kids…unless you’re a left wing gender extremist

City buses in London, Ontario drew attention after a Christian group paid for advertising on local transit buses with the simple message: "Let kids be kids: put the brakes on medical transitions for minors."

We all know that nothing triggers the radical left-wing Marxists like some good old fashioned common sense. And that is just what happened.

London's transgender community bemoaned that this ad is 'extremely harmful to youth' and 'dangerous', and all the other trigger words and phrases they love to use so much. One individual touted the ad as "absolutely appalling".

You know what's appalling? Mutilating children, confusing them about their gender behind their parents' backs, and using chemical castration drugs on children and calling it "healthcare". Those things are appalling.

After pushback from gender extremists to have the ads removed, the London Transit Commission (LTC) decided not to pull the ads. Even though the chair of the LTC said the ad "does not reflect the views and values" of London's transit authority, the LTC concluded that the ad does NOT violate any part of the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms.

Transgender activists clapped back by purchasing their own ads, launching on January 20, that read "Trust kids when they tell you who they are." and "protect trans kids".

They're missing the point. They either don't know what they're advocating for, or they just don't care.

Do they know that trans children tend to be more suicidal, mentally ill, and potentially injured for life, both mentally and physically? According to the National Library of Medicine, suicide rates are higher in transgender youth than 'cisgender' youth. A study showed that 41% of trans kids were significantly depressed, 20% had attempted suicide, and 46% had self-harmed over the course of a year. In Canada, trans kidshave 3 times more likelihood of developing depression and anxiety, 5 times the amount of suicidal tendencies and attempts, and 4 times likelier to self-harm than those who are not.

Additionally, the American College of Paediatricians says that there is no evidences that transgender procedures are safe for children. In fact, the side effects include the following: "mental illness, permanent physical harm including osteoporosis, seizures, cognitive impairment, sterility, higher risk of heart attacks, stroke, blood clots, and cancer."

Knowing these awful side effects, we should be alarmed that our children, grandchildren, nieces, or nephews have access to all of this information without your knowledge, in schools and in society. Not only do they have access, but this twisted agenda is actively being pushed at kids as young as three years of age, and parents have no clue.

Unless we start using our voices and making noise, these radicals will keep preying upon innocent children. We have to do something before it's too late!

On the 13th day of Christmas ...we got one less indoctrinator at Waterloo Regional District School Board!

This month, the Waterloo Regional District School Board (WRDSB) abruptly announced the departure of their Director of Education Jeewan Chanicka. WRDSB would not give any explanation for this decision.

If you’re familiar with Jeewan Chanicka, you’ll know that he’s insufferably woke, and WRDSB has had a lot of attention drawn to it for the lack of respect towards parental rights and their brutal pandering to woke politics.

If you’re not familiar with Jeewan Chanicka, here is a little recap of who WRDSB hired as their Director of Education.

Jeewan Chanicka has long been an activist for LGBTQ and trans ideologies, as well as a critical race theory activist. He condemned parents who participated in the MillionMarch4Children, citing the march as a “hateful and violent incident”. In a LinkedIn post from two months ago, Jeewan wrote a long wordy tirade including “All of us- regardless of background- have internalized racism.”

He created a video advocating for menstrual health where he claimed that both men and women can menstruate. Ah yes, the liberal fairy-tale science of “biology”; maybe Chanicka should go back and re-educate himself on some of the basics of human biology before holding a position that guides and educates children.

Chanika was the Director of Education when WRDSB publicly silenced teacher Carolyn Burjoski after she raised valid concerns about the presence of highly sexualized literature in school libraries, a situation that many felt highlighted the Board's dismissive attitude toward the concerns of teachers and parents alike. Furthermore, Chanicka failed to take responsibility for a defamatory letter issued by the Board against David Todor, a father of two young girls, who had voiced his worries about his daughters’ safety amid the school board’s increasingly radical stance on gender ideology and age-inappropriate sexual literature.

In April of this year, Chanicka received the Visibility Award at an event in Toronto which celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Transgender Pride flag. Chanicka is very openly gay on his Instagram, and even posted a photo of eggplants he was cooking for dinner with the sexually suggestive eggplant emoji and winking emoji.

Therefore, we are so relieved to tell you that Jeewan Chanicka cannot indoctrinate any more children, or conflate his job in education with political activism.

Perhaps with new leadership, WRDSB will take into consideration the responsibility they have to educate the children in their care, and leave the politics out of it.

Parents don’t want their children’s education to be directed by men who wear skirts, and call them racist. Parents don’t want to be dismissed at board meetings, and they don’t want their children to be exposed to inappropriate sexual literature in school libraries.

When the government comes for parental rights…

While threats against parental rights in Canada are quite serious and require immediate pushback, we aren’t the only jurisdiction where parental rights have been trampled on. Jeff Younger, a father from Texas, recently lost a legal battle to prevent his ex-wife, who resides in California, from gender transitioning their 12-year-old son.

A California judge took Jeff Younger’s parental rights away, and his ex-wife has been given permission to move forward with gender transitioning procedures that include castrating their 12-year-old son—without Jeff’s consent. Despite his efforts to intervene and protect his son from irreversible medical procedures, the court ruled against him, citing the mother’s authority in making decisions regarding the child's gender identity.

This case raises alarming questions about parental rights, child welfare, and the growing trend of allowing minors to undergo life-altering procedures based solely on self-identification. It also highlights the growing power of the state to override parental consent when it comes to decisions about gender dysphoria, leaving fathers and mothers powerless to protect their children from harmful medical procedures.

This is a tragic and unsettling situation for Jeff Younger and his son, and it is also a warning sign for all parents. If the courts can strip a father of his ability to protect his child from such drastic medical procedures, parents across the US and Canada should be terrified at what this could mean for their own children.

This story took place in the U.S. but it’s a reality here in Canada. Chemical castration of minors is offered by many facilities across Canada, including at the B.C. Children’s hospital, as a “treatment” for children who wish to gender transition. Your children can begin gender transitioning without your knowledge or consent in most Canadian provinces. THIS IS NOT OKAY!

We must raise awareness for cases like this, to protect parental rights and demand that children are not subjected to harm. If you can, please consider a donation to PAFE. Share this story with your friends and family, and consider supporting PAFE so that we can continue to fight to protect parental rights and defend children’s safety in the face of radical gender ideologies.

We must stand together in defense of our children’s well-being, and for the future of our society.
