We have, sadly, another horrifying story for you: the real-life nightmare of Canadian parents who had to deal with their 10-year-old daughter gender transition without their knowledge or consent, at the hands of the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB), in Ontario.

10-year-old Julie began to privately identify as non-binary in 2021, and then came out to her school class at the beginning of the 2022 academic year. Her parents were entirely in the dark until June of 2022 when they found out that Julie was using a masculine name and they/them pronouns at school. Julie’s mother, Christina, said she had no idea that schools allowed children to socially transition without their parents’ consent. When Julie’s parents found out that this had been going on, and began questioning it, Children’s Aid Society (CAS) was called on them and launched an investigation into the family.

Julie and her mother told the National Post many alarming details about this situation, including how doctors told Julie, at the age of 11, that breast binding was normal and gave her information on puberty blockers. Her parents were warned by a psychiatrist that if they did not affirm her gender transition, she would likely kill herself.

Common-sense Canadians are shocked by this story. But the big question is: Why is Doug Ford allowing this type of thing to happen? Thanks to Bill 89, a Kathleen Wynne era legislation maintained by the Ford Government, rejecting your child’s gender dysphoria is grounds for involving CAS to get involved. The school board and teachers who facilitated this should be held responsible, but the buck stops with Premier Doug Ford. Doug Ford needs to repeal Bill 89 and all the horrors that come with it!!
