Where's the love?

The new religion of woke social justice has found another traditional practice to police and cancel in the name of “equity”.

This time it’s Valentine’s Day.

Parents of students at Jean Steckle Public School in Kitchener, Ontario, have been informed that their children won’t be allowed to hand out Valentine cards on February 14.

Once again, excluding children from this enjoyable and time-honoured tradition is being done in the name of “inclusion”.

The reasoning of the school officials is that some children may feel left out because of the financial strain of buying the cards, and that Valentine’s Day’s promotion of candy is “inconsistent with the Healthy Schools approach.”

Surely a shrewd teacher could come up with a way to celebrate that distributes the economic burden with collective effort.  At the very least the teacher could hand out a sheet of paper and crayons and ask the children to make a valentine for their parents, or a family member, and this would cost the children nothing!

Once again, wokeism will cost children a fun activity.

Perhaps it’s no mere coincidence that Jean Steckle Public School is part of Waterloo Region District School Board, which has been no stranger to the radical woke agenda.

PAFE has written about the case of Carolyn Burjoski, who just over a year ago was silenced, and then slapped with a “stay-at-home” order by the WRDSB, after she had questioned the presence of storybooks that promote gender transitioning in elementary school libraries.

We’ve also told you about the WRDSB’s censuring of Mike Ramsay, one of its only black trustees, after he had objected to lesson plans that direct Caucasian students to acknowledge their “white privilege”.

Clearly, the Waterloo Region District School Board would rather indoctrinate its students with a steady diet of radical activist nonsense than let them have fun at school and express how much they care for their fellow students on Valentine’s Day.

Bowing to a global trend in culture at large, and in education, Boards like the WRDSB have gradually eliminated traditions associated with Christmas, Easter, and now Valentine’s Day, from classrooms, while promoting gender ideology, “critical race theory”, and the supremacy of sexual orientation in identity politics.

Boards such as the WRDSB push surveys that ask children whether they are “trans” or “queer” long before they could possibly know what sexuality is. Children are encouraged to explore these areas without telling their parents about it, yet their passing out of Valentine cards expressing fondness for one another is considered such a grave threat to “equity” that it must be eliminated!

This evil social experiment will continue, with innocent children as its subjects, for as long as we allow it to.

We encourage you to share your concern with this latest cancellation of tradition by sending a respectful Valentine’s greeting to Joanne Weston, Chairperson of the Waterloo Region District School Board.

Stop the garbage. The majority do not want this. We want our Canadian culture. Don’t forget, it is the taxpayers like us that pay your wages.
