New poll shows most Canadians support Danielle Smith's approach to "gender affirming" care!

We are pleased to bring you some good news this morning!

A new poll from Leger surveyed Canadians from all provinces on their views on topics from "gender affirmation" surgeries and treatments for minors, to notification prior to teaching gender ideology in the classroom, to preventing biological males from competing in women's sports.

Hands down, people throughout the country support potential legal changes along the lines Danielle Smith has promised to introduce in Alberta.

We will have more to say on this, but we wanted to present you with the main takeaways from this poll. Among its "Key Highlights" are the following:

  • Nearly half of Canadians (45%) believe gender reassignment surgeries for minors 17 and under should be prohibited, 305 would approve with parental consent, and only 11% would support without any paretnal consent

  • 42% of Canadians oppose puberty blockers and hormones for minors 17 and under, 26% would support it with parental consent, and 11% would support it without parental consent

  • For more mature teens, 35% oppose puberty blockrs and hormone therapies for gender reassignment, 24% support the treatment with parental and medical approval, and 23% would agree without parental consent but with medical approval

  • 68% of Canadians surveyed are against allowing athletes born male to compete in women's sports, with 17% in favour

  • Almost 6 in 10 Canadians surveyed feel parents of school age children should be notified when formal instruction on subject matter involving gender identity, sexual orientation, or human sexuality is being taught. About half of this population (32% overall) feel parents should have the right to 'opt-in' their children for such teachings

  • 45% think these policies provide clear rules for transgender youth, benefitting them long-term, while 24% view it as an attack on transgender children

It's notable that the responses varied very little by region or demography. You may be interested to see that in Ontario support for the types of policies proposed by Danielle Smith is just as high or in some cases even higher than the national average.

This news should spur us all on to demand changes to provincial policies on parental consent for 'gender affirmative' medical treatments, parental opt-in before gender ideology can be taught and the participation of biological males in women's sports.
