2020 Year-in-Review

  • Dec. 4, 2019 – PAFE alerts parents to the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Policy/Program Memorandum no. 144 which allows school principals to withhold information from parents about their children.
  • Dec. 9 – PAFE continues to put pressure on the Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) for inviting LGBTQ activists to give teacher workshops. From the end of November into December PAFE asks people to contact the school board to voice their concerns.
  • Dec. 11 – PAFE tells supporters about LGBTQ activist groups giving presentations to students in schools in the Dufferin Peel Catholic School Board and York Catholic School Board and asks people to contact the Chair of the Trustees at both boards.
  • Dec. 11 – PAFE President Teresa Pierre is quoted in a Toronto Star article about the divisions in the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) over the inclusion of gender ideology in its Code of Conduct: “I hope the new board will stick to its mandate of delivering Catholic education rather than trying to be politically correct at the expense of students.”
  • Dec. 23 – Leader of the Stop the New Sex-Ed Agenda Party Queenie Yu speaks at a special TCDSB meeting held to discuss Trustee Michael Del Grande’s op ed defending his vote against the board including gender ideology in its Code of Conduct. Queenie’s defense of a trustee’s right to freedom of speech is quoted in the Toronto Star.
  • Jan. 30 – PAFE launches its “NO GIT Campaign” or “No to gender identity theory in Ontario schools,” encouraging Ontarians to push back against gender identity theory in schools. PAFE urges parents to file PAFE’s comprehensive exemption form with their schools to opt their children out of all instruction in gender identity theory.
  • Feb. 19 – PAFE alerts its supporters to an activist teacher in the (TCDSB) boasting on his Twitter feed that he is reading pro-LGBTQ books and books about gender expression to Grades 5 and 6 students. 
  • Feb. 28 –Teresa Pierre and Queenie Yu hold an Information-Action Meeting in Whitby to speak with supporters about the transgender agenda and political action. Despite a snowstorm a full room of supporters attends.
  • Mar. 1 – It is announced that the human rights complaint made by the Ottawa-area Buffone family over gender identity lessons taught to their daughter in her Grade 1 class will proceed to a full hearing despite the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board’s attempt to get the case dismissed.
  • Mar. 9 – Justin Trudeau introduces Bill C-8, “An Act to amend the Criminal Code (conversion therapy),” which if passed will potentially jail parents who seek therapy for a child with gender dysphoria. PAFE launches a grassroots effort among its supporters to lobby MPs not to support Bill C-8.
  • Mar. 10 – PAFE holds an Information-Action Meeting in Ottawa featuring parent activist Pamela Buffone and CPC Leadership candidate MP Derek Sloan. Due to COVID-19 PAFE’s Information-Action Meetings in other locations in Ontario are put on hold.
  • Apr. 23 – PAFE encourages parents of children enrolled in board schools that have not adopted synchronous (live online) learning during the COVID-19 lockdown to reach out to board administrators and request that they make it available. 
  • May 8 – Following PAFE encouraging parents to contact board administrators to ask for synchronous learning for their children, Minister Lecce sends a memo to school boards advocating for teachers to embrace live online learning.
  • May 11 – PAFE tells supporters that out of the four candidates running for the CPC leadership only MP Derek Sloan has been vocal in speaking out against the two evils that most immediately threaten the integrity of the Canadian family: the enshrinement of “gender ideology” in Canadian law (Bill C-16) and criminalizing parents for trying to help their children accept the bodies with which they are born (Bill C-8).
  • May 19 – PAFE exposes the link between UN and radical sex-ed curriculums like the one implemented in Ontario in an email to its supporters.
  • May 29 – PAFE reports that the WCDSB will fly a “Catholic” gay pride flag for Pride Month in June and asks people to contact trustees and voice their concerns. After an intense public backlash the board announces it will not fly any flag for Pride Month.
  • June 3 & 17 – PAFE hosts online Townhalls with psychotherapist and author Dr. Ann Gillies about Bill C-8.
  • June 3 – PAFE launches a petition against Bill C-8 and continues to encourage PAFE supporters to contact their MPs to protest the bill’s violation of parental rights.
  • June 10 & 24 – PAFE holds digital Townhalls with CPC leadership candidate MP Derek Sloan to discuss Bill C-8 and how it threatens parental rights.
  • June 29 – PAFE alerts parents to a new permissive student dress code in the Durham District School Board being criticized for leading to more sexualizing of children.
  • July 10 – PAFE encourages its supporters to sign MP Derek Sloan’s petition asking the Government of Canada to immediately order a moratorium on the medical transitioning of minors and launch a national inquiry into why so many vulnerable children are transitioning.
  • July 27 – PAFE alerts its supporters to the Justin Trudeau WE Charity ethics scandal. PAFE has previously alerted supporters to concerns over WE Charity activities within schools.
  • July 30 – PAFE endorses Derek Sloan as the #1 choice to vote for in the CPC leadership race due to his strong support of the family and parental rights.
  • July 31 – Minister Lecce announces the Ontario government’s relationship with WE Charity is ending and encourages school boards across the province to “halt all contracts and investigate existing contracts.” Other provinces announce similar action and several school boards in Ontario announce they are reviewing their relationships with WE.
  • Aug. 13 – PAFE encourages its supporters to contact their school board trustees about severing connections with WE Charity.
  • Aug. 18 – Prime Minister Trudeau prorogues Parliament until September 23rd putting an end to Bill C-8 and a temporary pause in the investigation into the government’s actions with WE Charity.
  • Aug. 24 – Erin O’Toole is elected the new leader of the CPC. MP Derek Sloan performs strongly on the first ballot taking 14% of the votes, and overall the 2020 leadership race shows the number of people voting in favour of pro-family stances has risen.
  • Sept. 9 – In the wake of the ethics scandal WE Charity announces it is shutting down its Canadian operations including its much-criticized flagship event WE Day.
  • Sept. 10 – PAFE hosts a back-to-school virtual Townhall to help guide parents through the options available this year with respect to program delivery. 
  • Oct. 2 – Teresa Pierre is a guest on Tanya Granic Allen’s new show Counterpoint for a discussion on school choice including the results of PAFE’s poll which showed strong support across Canada for the principle of school choice.
  • Oct. 3 – PAFE alerts its supporters that the Trudeau government’s “conversion therapy” ban bill has been resurrected as Bill C-6 and, being virtually unchanged, is just as dangerous to children and parental rights as its former incarnation Bill C-8.
  • Oct. 8 – PAFE continues its grassroots efforts campaign against Bill C-6 encouraging people to sign PAFE’s petition and contact their MPs and new CPC leader Erin O’Toole to ask them not to support the bill.
  • Oct. 20 – PAFE President Teresa Pierre is interviewed by Rebel News reporter Tamara Ugolini about the threat of “gender identity theory” and Bill C-6.
  • Oct. 28 – Bill C-6 passes its second reading in Parliament by a vote of 308-7. PAFE reports to its supporters on who voted Yes, No, or abstained or skipped the vote, and asks people to write notes of thanks to the MPs who voted No and to write to the other MPs to convince them that the bill should not be supported.
  • Oct. 29 – Former Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne speaks in the Ontario legislature demanding the government investigate a decision by the TCDSB in August 2020 that found Trustee Michael Del Grande not guilty of alleged “hate speech” violations dating back to the trustee debate over including gender ideology in its Code of Conduct in November 2019. Minister Lecce speaks to the leadership of the TCDSB asking for “accountability for this trustee’s actions.”
  • Nov. 4 – PAFE sends out an alert about the attack on Trustee Del Grande and asks people to contact Minister Lecce, Premier Ford, the TCDSB Chair and the board trustees.
  • Nov. 11 – MPP Kathleen Wynne participates as a delegate at a TCDSB meeting to complain about the board’s previous “not-guilty” finding for Trustee Del Grande. Teresa Pierre also speaks at the meeting in defence of Trustee Del Grande and to protest against the attempt to force the reversal of the board’s decision. Trustees overturn their previous decision not to sanction Trustee Del Grande.
