TCDSB presents transgender-themed play to board teachers

[edited March 4, 2024 to reflect that the play is being shown to staff and not students on March 19]

The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) will be previewing a play for staff called "Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls", put on by Roseneath Theatre. Here is the description of this play from the theatre's website:

"Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls follows the story of 9-year-old Fiona who comes out as a boy and wants to be called Fin. Fin has always had this feeling – knowing something is different but not knowing what it was or how to say it. As Fin cuts his hair short and changes his name, his family works to understand and adjust to Fin’s gender identity. Dad is accepting of the change right away, but Mom doesn’t quite get it at first. Always from a place of good intentions, we see Fin’s family struggle with this change and through the course of the play ultimately begin to accept and embrace Fin for who he is."

This production is a glaringly obvious display of the ideologies they are trying to push down kids' throats. It is geared towards grade 4-8 and schools are encouraged to enter a draw to win a free performance of this play, at their own school.  TCDSB is encouraging its educators to bring family and friends along to watch the performance.

TCDSB educators will preview this play on March 19, 2024 at the Cardinal Carter Theatre, at 5pm. In an email to TCDSB's staff, the equity superintendant, Roy Fernandes said "I have seen the play and recommend all staff to see if because of the engaging plotline, sensitive portrayal, and high calibre that Roseneath brings". Board Superindent Michael Cacamo told PAFE that the board will be shown to staff to test whether the play is suitable for students, yet the draw is already being done to win a performance of the play for students.

The TCDSB has no business endorsing this play! As we say time and again, transgender and gender ideology does not belong in schools! This topic is age-inappropriate and confuses young minds, while taking away from genuine education and learning. It is totally unsuitable for Catholic schools according to Catholic teaching on gender ideology.

ACTION ITEM:

Protest the TCDSB endorsing this play! Please contact the trustees and Equity superintendant at the board and express your dissatisfaction with their endorsement and inform the Archbishop that the board has committed this grave error.
