Opinion polls have shown recently that most Canadians want toxic gender ideology and age inappropriate material and instruction out of classrooms. They desire learning, not woke social activism, to be the focus of education.
Does that mean the radical activists are ready to take a step back and respect the wishes of parents?
As you might have guessed, the answer is no!
Unfortunately, we are seeing a trend among school boards to implement new “equity” policies, designed to expand and enshrine the influence of gender ideology within the schools.
In June, the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) considered adopting a Human Rights Policy, at the request not of the board’s trustees but of staff.
PAFE raised the alarm that such a policy, once established, could be used as a weapon to punish and intimidate board staff and teachers who challenge tenets of gender ideology based on common science and common sense.
As I discussed with Richard Syrett in a Newstalk Sauga 960 AM radio interview, the tragic suicide of former Toronto District School Board (TDSB) principal Richard Bilkszto was precipitated by the bullying and harassment he endured as a result of his challenging the principles of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) training.
“The boards don’t want such a tragic outcome as what happened to Mr. Bilkszto to happen again, but what are they doing to prevent it?”
-Teresa Pierre radio interview on Newstalk Sauga 960, June 13
The TDCSB Human Rights Policy issue has been deferred until September, but now the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) has approved a motion directing staff to draft its own Human Rights Policy.
The writing of this new policy will be headed by UGDSB’s human rights, equity and accessibility commissioner Alicia Ralph, who observes that “…the experiences of human rights is usually layered, and sometimes intersects with multiple identities of our students”.
Clearly, this board’s new policy will be steeped in the radical identity politics of gender, race and sexual orientation, and woe unto any teacher or staff who might challenge it.
The radical ideologues know they have overplayed their hand in ignoring the wishes of parents, and that their toxic ideas have no popular support. That’s why they’re rushing to establish these ideas in these policies, which are an insult both to parental authority and to democracy!
We must remain vigilant in opposing these efforts wherever they happen.
