Ontario Family Takes School Board to Tribunal Over Gender Identity Lessons

While the Doug Ford PC government sex-ed repeal lie is being exposed, and the government continues to enthusiastically allow the Wynne sex-ed to be taught in Ontario classrooms, at any age, one Ontario family is taking action.

An Ottawa-area family has filed a complaint with the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal over gender identity theory lessons taught to their 6-year-old daughter in her Grade 1 class in her local public school.

According to a news story, the Buffone family claim their daughter was subjected to gender identity theory lessons in her classroom, where children were shown this video.

The child claims the teacher in the class then taught “there is no such thing as girls and boys,” and “girls are not real and boys are not real”, causing great distress to the child.

The child then “began spontaneously and repeatedly asking [her parents] why her identity as a girl was “not real.” She asked if she could ‘go to a doctor’ about the fact that she was a girl.”

The Buffones are asking the Tribunal to "order the Board i) to ensure that classroom instruction “not devalue, deny, or undermine in any way the female gender identity”; ii) to mandate teachers to  “inform parents when lessons on gender identity will take place or have taken place, including the teaching objectives and the materials that will be or have been used for such lessons”; and iii) to pay the Buffones $5,000.00 in general damages “to compensate for injury to dignity, feelings and self-respect caused by the discrimination.”

I certainly hope the Tribunal mandates that teachers must inform parents in advance when these lesson will be taught- something which PAFE has been pushing for the past few years. Parents have a right to know when and what their children will be taught when it comes to sex-ed.

Will the Buffones be successful at the Tribunal? I don’t know.

What I do know is that this Doug Ford government had the ability to repeal the teaching of gender identity theory in classrooms- and promised they would- and instead the government repealed nothing. They lied.

And who is paying the price for the Ford-government cowardice, and about-face?

The children of Ontario.

What can you do?

ACTION ITEM: Protect Ontario’s Children

Proponents of the Wynne sex-ed want you and me to be discouraged and to remain silent. They want us to give up and think that nothing we do will make a difference.

Send a message to Queen's Park. Sign our Legislative petition and get others to do the same.

What Good is a Legislative Petition?

PAFE’s petition is eligible to be presented by MPPs and recorded in the official records of the Ontario Legislature. When thousands upon thousands sign the petition, the government takes notice. Also, future generations will see how many people fought to protect our children from the Wynne sex-ed and kept Doug Ford accountable to his promise to repeal and replace it.

Please sign our petition and help us pressure the government. Get at least 10 others to do the same. Here's what we need you and your friends to do:

  1. Get the petition. Download it and print it off by clicking here or on the link below:

Download the Petition Form, Instructions & FAQs

  2. Collect signatures. Please collect at least 10 signatures from your family, when you go to work, your place of worship, or wherever you go. It would be great if you could ask others to help collect signatures by forwarding this email to them. For signatures to be valid, they must be in blue or black ink, and include the full name and complete address of the person.

  3. Mail petition back to PAFE. When you're done collecting signatures, please mail them to our office:
