On December 18, 2023, the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (RCCDSB) issued a decision denying Josh Alexander’s appeals of the suspensions and exclusions he was slapped with during the 22-23 school year by the principal of St. Joseph’s High School in Renfrew.
The Board also ordered that the decision itself be withheld from the public.
Thanks to Alexander’s lawyer, James Kitchen having filed his brief in an Application for Judicial Review to the Divisional Court of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, that decision can now be read by all!
I think you’ll agree that it’s easy to see why the RCCDSB wanted to keep the decision shrouded from view.
The ruling reflects the Board’s apparent belief that everyone is entitled to hold religious beliefs, but should the expression of those beliefs happen to hurt anyone’s feelings because they defy the leftist orthodoxy that now grips the education system, they must be kept private.
Alexander, when a Grade 11 student in 2022, scandalized that orthodoxy when he opined in class debates and on social media that there are only two genders, that you cannot switch genders, and that male students shouldn’t be permitted in the girls’ washrooms.
Alexander’s opinions were based on his Christian beliefs, but since they clashed with those of some of his classmates and teachers, he was expelled and excluded from school for “bullying”, and arrested when he tried to return.
The RCCDSB’s decision in response to Josh’s appeal was that he never should have expressed those opinions.
“He said he refused to use their chosen pronouns.”
-Excerpt from formerly secret RCCDSB Josh Alexander decision
As James Kitchen has noted, the Board has embraced an unreasonable view of the right to participate freely in society while holding and living according to religious beliefs.
A quick perusal of the document clearly shows it was written by someone firmly in the radical activist camp. It is peppered with woke language such as “deadname” and “bathroom of the gender to which they identify”.
It becomes clear that this decision was kept a secret because even those who wrote it knew it wouldn’t stand up to scrutiny.
This is yet another glimpse of the world these social radicals are creating in our schools: one in which we must conceal our true beliefs, and they conceal the procedures by which those who obey their consciences by speaking truth are excluded and punished.
They wish to keep everything in the dark, which is why we must continue to shine light on what they are doing.
